Wow - the month has flown by! Here's what I wore last week:
On 23 May, I wore an entire me-made outfit!
Top: me made Simplicity 2599 in Liberty lawn (Toria).
Skirt: Wiksten Tulip skirt
Shoes: Clarks
This top is the first item of clothing I ever made. Yep, I jumped straight in with a Liberty! and no muslin - it could have ended in tears! Fortunately it turned out fine. I'd like to make this pattern again - I think I could easily go down a size around the shoulders/bust. I was totally inspired by Karen (her versions of this pattern were one of the main reasons I started to sew clothes in the first place!).
On 24 May, I wore:
Top: me-made Wiksten Tank
Cardigan and trousers: Gap
Shoes: Clarks Originals
I had the camera at a weird angle - it's given me absurdly tiny feet. This photo makes me question this outfit, when I thought it looked pretty good on the day.
I'm not enjoying the self-portrait aspect of MMM'12 - I know for readers of my blog (hello!) it's mostly been me grimacing at the camera (sorry about that). Imagine what the outtakes look like! At school, I had a friend who had spent a ridiculous amount of time (and film - this is pre-digital!) perfecting her camera face. I scoffed at the time, and thought it was weird how she looked the exact same in all her photos (while I was fooling around puffing my cheeks out etc). But at least she knows how to work the camera. While I mostly glare, grimace, or stare at the floor.
But I digress...
On 26 May, I wore:
Top: me-made Sorbetto
Shorts: Gap
Shoes: ancient - I probably shouldn't wear them (no arch support).
So, we're in the final stretch! I'm planning on wearing a me-made item for each of these last few days.
speak soon!
x

Excellent outfits again for this week Shivani and I can't believe how amazing the first ever top you made is! It's gorgeous! My first ever item was not wearable in the slightest ;o) I totally get what you mean about the self-portrait aspect of MMM, it's a bit cringe-worthy isn't it? Although I do actually think I've gotten slightly better over the weeks. Haha!
ReplyDeletethanks Marie! haha - yes, it looks good on the outside, but the inside is a real mess (I just made up seam finishing - not good). you always look fab in your photos :)
DeleteReally cute! I can't believe your first top is so lovely! And I'm still too afraid to cut into the small amount of Liberty that I bought for a blouse last summer! Yikes! I don't have a photo face at all, either-- I end up deleting 80% of the pictures because I'm too squinty, so I'll end up with a couple of shots where my hair looks really bad or something. :(
ReplyDeleteI think I didn't appreciate how difficult getting a good fit could be - so I just jumped right in there. Of course now I'll muslin a million times before cutting into the good stuff!
DeleteI recognised S2599 in an instant - I have been bringing mine out this week .....yours is lovely & with *that* skirt - my fave outfit of yours possibly. Hurrah for first makes! All your outfits look so summeryvthough, nice colours too.
ReplyDeleteYou always look lovely in your pics, I know it's an odd thing to do, but whatever you are doing works!
Thanks Winnie! I'm thrilled that summer is finally here - it's much easier to dress for a nice sunny day (no need to worry about all the layers!) x
DeleteYes the photo challenge is probably the hardest part. I get caught with my mouth half-open and my chin in the air on a daily basis - I need to allow an extra 20 minutes to get to work in the morning!
ReplyDeleteI really like how you mix beautiful fabric with a simple shape and classic bottom-halves. Lesson learned for me right there!
yes - my time-keeping at work has definitely suffered this month. And it doesn't help that I'm not much of a morning person either! x
